Things are beginning to ramp up at "The Rock" as we prepare to bring back our WILDCATS on Wednesday, September 7! I want to thank our phenomenal custodial staff and summer crew for the work they have put in over the last two months to get the building ready to go! The building has a great vibe as staff members organize and decorate classrooms in preparation for a wonderful 22-23 school year! We cannot be more excited to get our WILDCATS back into the building!
Welcome Back Letter
If you have not done so already, you should receive your welcome back letter by the weekend, including your child's placement and teacher for the 22-23 school year! Please be sure to take the time to review all the pertinent information that is enclosed.
Split Rock Elementary will open its doors on Tuesday, August 30, from 9:00am-2:00pm for any students and their families who would like to tour the building on their own and locate their classrooms. Please note that the classrooms will be locked as many teachers will not be in the building.
Split Rock will host our Curriculum Night on Thursday, September 22. You will receive information on specific times and procedures throughout the first two weeks of school.
Transportation and Car Tags
We would like to encourage families to take advantage of the transportation provided by the West Genesee Central School District. This ensures students attend and dismiss on time while alleviating additional vehicles and traffic on campus as our Wildcats enter and exit the building.
A Message From Transportation:
"Transportation has wrapped up the bus routes for Split Rock and wants to remind you that if you have NOT sent in a daycare form already, it must be submitted ASAP to ensure your student is being bussed to and from the correct location. All bus routes will be available on Tuesday, August 23, for you to view. Any errors regarding your student that you may find, we encourage you to call Transportation directly at 315-487-4576. If you missed the survey and do NOT need a bus, we encourage you to contact Transportation directly. Split Rock will be conducting Emergency Bus Evacuation Drills on Thursday, September 15th upon morning arrival."
If you must transport your child, please contact the main office at 315-487-4656 to request a car tag. Car tags are available at the Main Office on the following dates and times:
- Tuesday, August 30, from 9:00am-2:00pm.
- Tuesday, September 6, from 3:00pm-4:00pm.
*A new 22-23 car tag must be issued. Last year's numbers are not permitted!
**Please note all card tags must be present and visible during dismissal for a child to be dismissed to your vehicle.**
Arrival/Dismissal Procedures
Drop Off (9:00am) Bottom Lot
Parents may begin lining up at 8:50am. Note students will not be let out of the cars until 9:00am.
Pick-up (3:15pm) Bottom Lot
Parents may begin lining up at 3:05pm.
- Ensure your car tag is visible for staff to see upon entering the parking lot (rearview mirror works best).
- Your child will be dismissed when your car has reached the pick-up and drop-off zone.
- Please do not pass cars on the left if you happen to load before the car in front of you.
- Please be sure to turn right as you exit the parking lot.
Breakfast/Lunch
The federal child nutrition waivers that allowed all students access to free meals ended on June 30, 2022. West Genesee CSD will no longer be able to provide free breakfast and lunch to all students for the 22-23 school year. Families who qualify for free or reduced-price meals must complete the necessary application and meet income qualifications to receive free meals. Households who do not qualify must resume paying for breakfast and lunch. Be sure to visit our website at westgensee.org and click the Food Services link for more information.
Breakfast:
Students in need of breakfast will be dismissed from busses/cars at 8:50am to allow time to eat in the cafeteria and then they will report directly to their homeroom.

Split Rock's Sensory Hallway has been installed and is ready to go!
The student management system (SMS) transition is underway and new families are starting to login and use our SMS, Synergy. Over the next few weeks the District will ask families to update information (phone numbers, email addresses, emergency contacts, call order, custody, digital equity survey, etc) within Synergy.
With any system change it is good practice for all users to gain access and verify information and make changes as necessary. We will roll this out by building. Please see the ParentVUE activation email schedule below:

Families with students in multiple buildings will be able to update all of their students information and will not need to wait till specified building scheduled activation release date. Once you have submitted your changes, the Central Registration office may contact you with questions.

It will be important that all families activate their ParentVUE account as this will give you access to student schedules, attendance, busing information and much more. Please look for future communication regarding downloading the ParentVUE app! Accounts do need to be activated prior to logging into the app.
